The Kengeri police have cracked a mysterious death case of a woman whose body was found dumped in a garbage heap behind a bus stop in west Bengaluru, revealing that she died after knocked down by an autorickshaw.

Police have arrested the accused, identified as Basave Gowda, 50, an autorickshaw driver from Laggere.

According to the investigation, the deceased, Kempamma, 50, had arrived near Kengeri Upanagara around 12.30 a.m. on Monday after travelling by train from her hometown in Mandya district. Basave Gowda, who was driving his autorickshaw, allegedly knocked her down.

He initially took the injured woman to a nearby hospital. However, doctors advised him to shift her to a speciality hospital for further treatment. While taking her there, Basavegowda realised that Kempamma had succumbed to her injuries. Fearing legal consequences, he allegedly disposed off her body behind a bus stop in Mylasandra and fled the scene.

The body was discovered on Monday morning by passersby, who alerted the police. The police shifted the body for post-mortem examination and later informed the victim’s family. During the probe, investigators analysed CCTV camera footage and gathered technical evidence, which led them to identify and track down the accused.
