Speeding car kills 4-year-old girl student

A 4-year-old girl student was fatally knocked down by a speeding car on Tuesday evening.

Police said the a speeding car, which entered a private matriculation higher secondary school in Chinthamani near Puliyangudi, knocked down M. Siva Yazhini of Nerkattum Seval even as she was coming out of the school to go home. Even though the school authorities rushed the girl to the nearby private hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.

Agitated over this, the girl’s parents and relatives blocked traffic on the Tenkasi – Madurai Highway demanding the arrest of the car driver. Even though the officials and the police assured the protesters that the culprit would be arrested, the agitation continued even after 9 p.m.
