Purandeswari on Tuesday appealed to the Centre to offer financial aid for the modernisation of machinery at palm oil processing factories under the National Mission on Edible Oils- Oil Palm (NEMO-OP). According to an official release, Ms. Purandeswari raised the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday (March 24, 2026). As many as 13 palm oil processing factories operate in Andhra Pradesh, which is India’s leading State in terms of area under oil palm cultivation, spreading above 2.49 lakh hectares. As of 2026, the total extent of area under oil palm in the Godavari region alone stands at 1.97 lakh hectares. “The modernisation of machinery in oil palm processing factories will improve Oil Extraction Ratio (OER), enhancing crude palm oil production”, said Ms. Purandeswari. The Central government is expected to respond to the issue within a month.
