Popcorn packets with TVK leader Vijay’s photo seized; DMK workers booked for distributing sports equipment

Election flying squad officials seized 85 packets of popcorn from a theatre canteen that were labelled with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay’s photo on Monday (March 23, 2026). Likewise, a case was registered against DMK functionaries for distributing sports equipment.

Acting on a tip-off that popcorn packets stickered with Mr. Vijay’s photo were being sold at a theatre in Alagapuram, which falls under the Salem West Assembly constituency, the election flying squad officials inspected the theatre and found 85 such packets. The officials seized them, handed them over to the district treasury, and are investigating the matter further.

In a separate incident, Attur MLA Jeyasankaran lodged a complaint with the officials alleging that DMK functionaries distributed sports equipment at a function held at Selliyampalayam in Narasingapuram municipality on Sunday (March 23) night, on behalf of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. Based on the complaint, revenue officials conducted an inquiry and filed a complaint with Attur Town Police. The police registered a case against DMK functionaries R. Palani and M. Palanivel for the alleged distribution of sports equipment.

Investigations revealed that Yuvaraj, an inspector attached to the town planning department in Narasingapuram municipality, had handed over the sports equipment to DMK functionaries before the elections, and that they distributed it later. Based on the findings, Narasingapuram Municipality Commissioner Pavithra issued a suspension order against Yuvaraj.
