Marvel Studios has released a new teaser for Avengers: Doomsday that formally introduces key X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirming the return of Professor X, Magneto and Cyclops.

The latest preview marks the third teaser released for Avengers: Doomsday, following earlier footage centered on Steve Rogers and Thor. This installment shifts focus entirely to the X-Men, spotlighting Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto and a brief but striking appearance from James Marsden’s Cyclops.

The teaser opens on the Xavier Institute, shown abandoned and stripped of its former life. Xavier and Magneto are seen together inside the mansion, seated at a chessboard, echoing imagery from their earlier film appearances. The footage then cuts to a battlefield moment featuring Cyclops, who removes his visor and unleashes a full-power optic blast. The teaser closes with a title card reading, “The X-Men will return,” confirming their involvement in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel has gradually reintroduced legacy X-Men characters since Disney’s acquisition of Fox, beginning with Patrick Stewart’s appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and continuing through The Marvels and Deadpool & Wolverine. Avengers: Doomsday appears to be the most substantial step yet in integrating the original X-Men cast into the MCU.

In addition to Xavier, Magneto and Cyclops, Marvel has already confirmed that Alan Cumming will return as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Kelsey Grammer as Beast and Channing Tatum as Gambit. It remains unclear whether other familiar characters such as Wolverine, Storm or Jean Grey will appear.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is positioned as a major crossover event bringing together Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four characters under one narrative. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026.
