Officials seized ₹1.20 lakh from a lorry driver who had brought onion from Maharashtra to Pavoorchathram vegetable market, which is supplying vegetables to various parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Kerala. When a flying squad led by Assistant Engineer of Department of Agricultural Engineering Shanmuga Priya was checking the vehicles, the officials stopped a lorry at Keezhapavoor North Bazaar bus-stop on Thursday. As the lorry driver P. Sivaraj, 26, of Chozha Nagar in Salem was carrying ₹1.20 lakh in cash, the officials asked him to submit documents for money he was carrying. He told the flying squad that he was returning to Salem with the transport charges of ₹1.20 lakh after bringing onion to the Pavoorcharthram vegetable market from Maharashtra. Since he reportedly could not submit any documents, the unaccounted cash was seized and the officials asked the driver to submit valid documents to account for the money he was carrying and get the seized cash.
