The Election Commission has made arrangements for voters aged 85 years and above and persons with disabilities to cast their votes through the postal ballot system for the Assembly elections scheduled on April 23, 2026. In a release, District Election Officer and Collector S. Kandasamy said polling will be held across all eight Assembly constituencies in the district, and eligible voters who are unable to visit polling stations can opt for postal voting. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit such voters in their respective areas and provide Form 12D to obtain their consent. If voters are not available during the first visit, officials will make a second visit. Voters who opt for postal voting will be informed in advance about the date and time of the visit by polling officials. The information will be shared through SMS to the registered mobile number or communicated through post or BLOs. On the scheduled day, polling officials will visit the voter’s residence, verify identity, complete formalities, and facilitate voting through postal ballot. Assistance of a companion will be permitted for those unable to vote independently, subject to prescribed conditions ensuring secrecy. If the voter is not available during the second visit, no further opportunity will be provided, the release said. Persons with disabilities must produce a valid government-issued certificate to avail themselves of the facility. For queries, voters can contact the toll-free helpline 1800 425 0424, the release added.
