Penn Collective Trust, a non-partisan initiative, has launched a mega awareness drive in Tiruppur on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023.

A press release said the 106th Constitutional Amendment Act 2023 provides for one third of seats to be reserved for women for Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assembly. At the crossroads of this political milestone, there is a need to educate women on how to use this opportunity to participate in politics as an empowered candidate and elector in the elections.

The Collective has launched Thenkoodu, a project to train 100 women to contest in the local body elections.

Awareness programmes were also held for college students, rural women SHGs, industrial managerial employees, and union workers, educating about 400 women, at a programme at Chikanna Government Arts College, Tiruppur, Community Managed Training Centre Arulpuram, and Tiruppur Export Association.

The Penn Collective team, including its founder Poorani, secretary Shivanjali Kamble, and project lead of Thenkoodu Mantra Shree, explained the need for women’s participation in politics, presented the current statistics of women in politics, ways for women to enter politics, and achievements of women leaders in local bodies at these programmes.
