The Telangana High Court on Monday issued notices to Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender who got elected on BRS ticket but later contested from Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat as Congress nominee, and the Assembly Speaker in a writ petition challenging the latter’s recent order dismissing disqualification petition of Nagender. The Bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin directed the office of the Speaker and Danam Nagender to file their counter affidavits in the matter by April 16. The BJP Assembly floor leader Alleti Mahesh Reddy, who filed the writ petition, sought a direction to quash and set aside the order issued by the Speaker on March 11 after hearing the disqualification petition no. 4 of 2024 pertaining to Danam Nagender. The petitioner contended that the Kharaitabad MLA should be disqualified as the affidavit he had filed on April 23 of 2024 during Lok Sabha elections while contesting from Secunderabad claimed he was nominee of Congress party having been elected as MLA on BRS ticket earlier. The petitioner requested the Bench to dispose the petition expeditiously as per the Supreme Court verdict in connected matters.
