The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (March 23, 2026) hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming India’s longest-serving head of government, surpassing the 8,930-day record earlier held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.

At a press conference, on the party’s behalf, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for India’s powerful representation in the changing global landscape, stating that Mr. Modi has taken the country to new heights.

“Narendra Modi ji is not just a leader, but also a visionary and an institution in himself, who has consistently worked for national interest both as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and as the Prime Minister of India,” he said.

Taken landmark decisions

Recounting Mr. Modi’s contributions in Gujarat, the Union Minister spoke about initiatives like redevelopment of earthquake-hit Bhuj and Kutch, Narmada water management, agricultural development, and Vibrant Gujarat. As the Prime Minister, he has spearheaded reforms and numerous landmark decisions involving infrastructure projects, startups, self-reliance, Make in India campaign, agriculture, comprehensive public welfare, women’s empowerment, education, healthcare, and national security.

“Working tirelessly for a larger purpose, reaching the pinnacle of hard work, and constantly pushing the limits of effort such an example has been set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it fills one with pride and satisfaction,” he said, adding that he had known Mr. Modi for about 35 years.

“I have worked alongside him as an organisational karyakarta, witnessed him in action as Chief Minister, and later seen him as Prime Minister while I myself became a Union Minister. In all these roles, the fundamental motivation Narendra Modi ji displayed has always been patriotism, putting the nation above all, and prioritising the country first,” said Mr. Chouhan.
