College student injured while following Vijay, dies

P. Vignesh, 19, of Keezh Kalkandarkottai in Tiruchi, who was injured after being involved in a road accident while following the TVK leader Vijay during his recent visit to Thanjavur on March 4, died on Monday.

Vignesh and his friend Arun had followed Vijay on a two-wheeler while the actor visited Thanjavur to address party office-bearers and functionaries at Sengipatti. The two-wheeler had collided with a police vehicle proceeding in front. The accident took place when the police vehicle slowed down to join the main carriageway from the service lane. While Vignesh was injured on his head, his friend had fractured his leg.

Vignesh was admitted to the Thanjavur Government Medical College and Hospital and later underwent a surgery. After the surgery, he was shifted to a private hospital in Tiruchi where he doed on Monday evening, sources said.
