The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will organise unity meetings by bringing together various Hindu communities and community organisations as part of the centenary celebrations of the organisation, according to RSS Dakshain Kerala Saha Prantha Karyavah K.B. Sreekumar. He was briefing the media about the deliberations of the recently held three-day national conference of the organisation in Haryana. The organisation will also hold meetings with prominent individuals and youth. As many as 1,500 Hindu meetings have been held in the State. RSS activists have already visited 22 lakh houses, including 64,000 Muslim and 54,000 Christian households in the State, to spread the message of the organisation. Books and pamphlets on the organisation were also distributed during the house visits, he said. “The RSS, which has around 7,000 ‘sakhas’ in the State, will widen its footprints in all villages and achieve the target of 10,000 sakhas,” he said. On a question on the slow pace of the political growth of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State, despite the RSS having its units in a large number of places, Mr. Sreekumar said the party may grow on its own in the State. The States where the BJP had politically established itself may not have a large number of RSS units, he said. The RSS will not issue instructions to its workers on whom to vote for in the elections. However, the organisation is of the view that all should exercise their franchise, which is part of the civic responsibility of the citizens of the country. RSS workers would vote for those who subscribe to their ideology, he said. The organisation has plans to decentralise its activities in the State. The organisational structure will be trifurcated in place of the two units. The three units would be based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode, he said. The RSS had made its position clear on the temple entry of women in Sabarimala earlier, he said RSS Prantha Prachar Pramukh M. Ganeshan was also present at the press conference.
