Fellowships were distributed to M.Sc. Marine Biology students of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) – Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) – National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) sponsored programme. The students will receive ₹10,000 per month during the first year and ₹5,000 per month from second year for a period of one year.

MoES DOM New Delhi Mission Director M.V. Ramana Murthy, NIOT Chennai Director Balaji Ramakrishnan, along with senior scientists of Advanced Marine Station for Ocean Biology (AMSOB) and NIOT, were present as chief guests on the occasion. VSU Vice-Chancellor Allam Srinivasa Rao distributed the fellowships to the selected students.

Mr. Ramana Murthy stated that the DOM is enabling India to advance in ocean exploration, resource utilisation, and sustainable development. This financial support will aid their academic studies and research activities. He interacted with students and faculty members, and appreciated the efforts in the field of marine sciences.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Ch. Vijaya (Principal), Dr. Hanuma Reddy (Head, Department of Marine Biology), Venkatarayalu Ch., faculty members, students, and parents. They opined that such programmes, supported by the Government of India, promote student empowerment and create employment opportunities.
