Minister for Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav on Monday (March 23, 2026) instructed officials to ensure that all necessary work at the Government Medical College in Piduguralla is completed so that admissions to 100 MBBS seats can begin from the 2026-27 academic year. During a virtual meeting to review the progress of the work at the medical college, the Minister said that the Union government sanctioned ₹195 crore for the college, coming up in 47 acres. The total cost of the project is ₹450 crore. As per National Medical Commission (NMC) norms, around 700 staff members, including doctors, need to be recruited for a college with 100 MBBS seats. So far, the department has decided to fill around 180 posts, including that of professors, associate professors, assistant professors, through transfers and promotions. Steps are being taken to fill the remaining positions, across 45 categories, according to a press release from the department. The Minister instructed officials to complete the recruitment process by the end of April. The Minister also reviewed the construction work of the college, attached teaching hospital, nursing college, and student hostels, and issued clear instructions that the remaining works should be completed by May 15. Upon the Minister’s instructions, a team of officials, led by Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur, will visit the college on Wednesday (March 25).
