Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Monday announced that a decision has been taken to propose denotifying land gathered for soil bank for the Polavaram irrigation project Left Main Canal to divert it for the housing purpose of the poor in Kakinada district.

Mr. Narayana, who is also the In-charge Minister of Kakinada district, stated on Monday: “The need of diverting land gathered for the Polavaram irritation project LMC’s soil bank has been reviwed during the District Development Review meeting.”

Speaking to newsmen after the DDRC meeting, Mr. Narayana said: “The Centre and State governments will be urged to allow the Water Resources Department to divert LMC soil bank land for housing purpose.”

The Water Resources Department officials have also been directed to supply water for the crops in the ongoing Rabi season and to carry out repair works as water would no longer required in the Rabi season.

On PM Surya Ghar scheme implementation in the Kakinada district, Mr. Narayana claimed that above 6,762 families have adopted solar power, generating above 21,000 KW of solar power.

Reacting to demands for more Anna canteens, Mr. Narayana pledged to set up five new Anna canteens, with three of these in the government hospitals in the Kakinada district.

Kakinada City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao, Peddapuram MLA Nimmakalaya Chinna Rajappa and other MLAs were present.
