Two held with 10 kg ganja at Secunderabad railway station

Two interstate ganja peddlers from Odisha were arrested at the Secunderabad railway station on Monday, March 23, after police seized over 10 kilograms of contraband they were attempting to transport to Delhi.

The accused have been identified as 26-year-old Dipak Sahu and 20-year-old Deepak Gouda, both residents of Ganjam district in Odisha. They were apprehended during a joint operation conducted on Monday by the Government Railway Police, the EAGLE team and the Railway Protection Force.

According to the police, they were intercepted in the general waiting hall at around 10 a.m. while carrying backpacks containing ganja. Upon questioning, they admitted to transporting the contraband, following which officials seized 10.089 kilograms of the substance valued at ₹5,04,450, along with two mobile phones.

Investigators said the accused, who are friends from neighbouring villages, had previously transported ganja sourced from the Gajapati forest region in Odisha to Delhi, where it fetched higher prices. They allegedly procured the latest consignment for ₹35,000 from an unidentified supplier on Sunday, March 22.

Police said that the two travelled by Visakha Express and reached Secunderabad the next morning, planning to continue their journey to Delhi later that night. They had stepped out for breakfast and returned to the waiting hall, where they were caught during a check. Further investigation is underway to identify the source and wider network involved.
