Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader N.A. Muhammed Kutty aka Mammuty has announced that he will contest from both the Tirur and Kottakkal Assembly constituencies as an Independent, protesting against the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Speaking in Malappuram on Monday, he accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], the principal constituent of the LDF, of betraying him. He claimed the party had initially offered him the Tirur seat but later withdrew the promise without any communication. “I am giving the LDF time to reconsider,” he said. “They can either withdraw V. Abdurahman from Tirur or Preethi Konchath from Kottakkal.” Alleging a larger conspiracy against him, Mr. Mammuty said he would disclose further details within two days. He said he lodged a police complaint after two individuals were seen filming his house under suspicious circumstances.
