Dinesh The students of NES Institute of Advanced Studies in Shivamogga took out a march, condemning the war involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran, and appealed for an end to the war. The students took out a march from the institute and covered major roads of the city before gathering at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Along the march, they raised slogans against war and appealed for peace. They even formed a human chain at Mahaveera Circle. The students also submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to the Deputy Commissioner. In their appeal, the students said that the conflict in West Asia has led to widespread destruction, loss of human life, damage to infrastructure facilities, and oil reserves. They highlighted that the missile explosions, chemical pollutants, and radiation are widespread, long-term diseases and health hazards affecting not only humans but all living beings. “Although the war is between a few countries, its harmful effects impact the entire world,” they argued. Further, they said, the conflict in West Asia had led to the closure of key waterways and straits, disrupting global fuel transport, resulting in severe shortages and skyrocketing fuel prices. “Despite the horrific consequences of the war, there have been no serious efforts to stop it. The United Nations, established with the aim of ensuring peace and harmony, should intervene and take steps to end the conflict,” they demanded. Principal B.S. Shivaprasad, College Red Cross unit coordinator Ishwar, Kannada Sahitya Vedike coordinator Sarjashankar Haralimath, faculty members Venkatesh, Sangeetha and others led the march.
