Prasads, Hyderabad’s earliest multiplex which opened in 2003, recently went in for a renovation. It has unveiled one of India’s largest HDR cinema auditoriums with its new PCX HDR by Barco. This technologically upgraded auditorium is designed to deliver enhanced brightness, contrast, and immersive sound for moviegoers.

The renovated auditorium features Barco 4K Laser HDR projector powered by Lightsteeringtechnology, which can deliver brightness levels of up to 300 nits, in a bid to enhance image clarity, colour depth, and contrast. The 390-seater auditorium has also undergone a refurbishment with a new Flat Aspect Ratio Screen, redesigned interiors, upgraded seating and improved acoustics to create a premium cinematic environment.

Prasads Multiplex, which has been a forerunner in the multiplex segment in the Telugu States, undertook this revamp to keep pace with the demand for premium format movie experience.

In December 2025, the PVR Inox group revamped its six-screen multiplex at Inorbit Mall into a 11-screen Superplex. Earlier this month, the newly-opened Allu Cinemas unveiled Hyderabad’s first Dolby Cinema screen through a screen with a width of 75 feet, combining Dolby Atmos sound and Dolby Vision.

Elaborating on the renovation at Prasads Multiplex, its managing director Ramesh Prasad stated, “Over the years, we have introduced several industry firsts in theatrical exhibition in India, including early adoption of digital 4K projection in 2014, Dolby Atmos immersive sound in 2015, and Barco flagship dual laser projection systems in 2022. The introduction of PCX HDR by Barco continues that legacy by offering audiences a new level of visual fidelity and immersion on the big screen.” He added that this PCX HDR by Barco auditorium complements the multiplex’s existing screens along with their flagship premium large format auditorium, PCX, now being rebranded to PCX Infinity, as one of the largest cinema screens in India.
