Shreyasi Singh, Minister of Sports and I&T, Bihar, and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, said her State is capable of hosting multiple events if India wins its bid for the 2036 Olympics.

“We have hosted international events earlier and are capable of doing so again.

Exposure

“The youngsters of the state can learn and benefit from the exposure.

“I would request the Honourable Minister of State, Sports, Raksha Khadse ji, to take my request to the Honourable Prime Minister, that Bihar has its eyes on the Olympics and the 2030 Commonwealth Games.”

The Olympian hopes to see more athletes from Bihar populating Indian contingents for multi-sport events.

“I was one of the only athletes from Bihar. We won the Junior World Cup in 2009. Haryana and Tamil Nadu usually dominate the contingents. When we reached the airport in Delhi, every State welcomed its athletes, but the one from Bihar was left alone. When I won the Commonwealth Games gold in 2018, I got the grand welcome I had hoped for.

Looking forward

“In India’s sports map, Bihar barely made it earlier. But in 2024, I participated in the Paris Olympics. Now, we have to take it forward.”
