Two dead, one injured after slab collapses in Kundanbagh

Two persons died and another sustained serious injuries after a slab collapsed from the third floor of a building in Kundanbagh on Sunday morning. The Panjagutta police booked a case.

The deceased have been identified as Vivek, 30, and his father Devi Das, 60. The injured, Dwaraka Prasad, 65, who is the owner of the building, is undergoing treatment and is said to be in a serious condition.

According to police, a lift had been constructed separately in the building, leaving a gap between the lift structure and the lobby. To bridge this gap, an iron slab measuring about 5×5 feet was installed and later covered with cement to resemble a balcony.

Officials said the iron structure had rusted over the years and weakened. On Sunday morning, the owner along with two electricians had stepped onto the slab for lift repair work, and the structure cracked under the combined weight before collapsing from the third floor.

Police said the victims fell along with the slab, resulting in fatal injuries to two of them. The bodies have been shifted for post mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way. Mr. Prasad is undergoing treatment for his injuries and his condition is said to be critical.
