A 66-year-old resident of Shivalli in Udupi has lodged a complaint with the police stating that he lost over ₹9 lakh to APK file fraud. In the complaint filed with Udupi Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime police, it was stated that the victim received a call on March 17 at 2.30 p.m. from an unknown person informing him that there was pending payment of ₹20 towards domestic gas cylinder refill bill that needs to be paid. He then received Mahanagar Gas Bill Update.apk file from the same number and was asked to make use of the file for making pending payment. The victim then pressed the APK file.
