The Confederation of Environment Associations of Nilgiris (CEAN) has highlighted a number of violations that will occur if the plans to redevelop the Ooty Race Course are carried through. Surjit K. Chaudhary, retired IAS officer and chairperson of CEAN, said that as per the Government Orders, it had come to their notice that a multi-level car park will be developed at ₹30 crore and other developments at a cost of ₹21.23 crore will come up in Udhagamandalam town’s last “green lung,” home to a number of endemic species of flora and fauna. He has written to the Chief Secretary highlighting the violations.
