The Chavakkad police on Saturday arrested Ibrahim, husband of 37-year-old Muhseena, in connection with her death nearly two months after she delivered a baby at home without medical supervision. Ibrahim, an acupuncture practitioner, is alleged to have conducted the delivery himself. A case has been registered against him under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Muhseena, who had remained in critical condition since giving birth in early January, died at the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning. Family members alleged that Muhseena had been subjected to prolonged domestic abuse and was denied proper medical care. According to relatives, Ibrahim refused to take her to a hospital when she was due for delivery and conducted the procedure at home. The newborn baby girl reportedly died a few days later due to lack of proper medical attention. “Ibrahim initially prevented us from admitting her to a hospital,” said a family member. “Her condition worsened after the home delivery, and we had to intervene to shift her first to a private hospital and then to the government facility in Thrissur.” The police have also sought permission to exhume the body of the newborn for further investigation. Muhseena had eight pregnancies, with four surviving children. A three-year-old daughter had died last year reportedly due to a heart condition. Ibrahim, who also works as a food delivery agent, remains in police custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are probing allegations of negligence, domestic abuse, and lack of proper medical care that led to the deaths of both mother and child.
