With 110 complaints received at the district control centre and 70 through the cVIGIL app since the Model Code of Conduct came into force, election violations in Coimbatore are being tracked and acted upon within 100 minutes.

The functioning of these mechanisms was reviewed on Friday, when general observer Sanjay Kumar and police observer Sudheer Kumar Porika jointly inspected the control rooms set up at the Coimbatore Collectorate.

A 24-hour control centre has been established at the Collectorate under the supervision of Special District Revenue Officer (LA) Abirami, with a dedicated team handling complaints received through telephone and the cVIGIL mobile application. These complaints are relayed to the nearest flying squad teams for action.

Vehicles deployed for flying squads and static surveillance teams have been fitted with GPS devices, enabling real-time monitoring from the Collectorate. Officials said the movement of teams is tracked to ensure prompt response.

A separate centre has also been set up to monitor political advertisements on television channels. The observers reviewed the functioning of both facilities and were briefed on the processes in place.

District Election Officer and Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan, and Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran were present during the inspection.

Officials said action has been taken on all complaints received, so far. The observers sought details on the nature of complaints, including allegations of cash distribution, supply of free items, use of coupons, and poster-related violations.

A majority of the complaints received through the cVIGIL app pertained to removal of political party posters and banners, officials said.

The general observer directed officials to submit a daily report on the number of complaints received, their nature, and the action taken.
