Prospective beneficiaries of Panchami land meant for Scheduled Castes and Depressed Classes in Coimbatore district continue to face difficulties in retrieval of the properties, due to what they describe as protracted legal battles. Even a fraction of the beneficiaries who have obtained the land face difficulties in retaining them, due to the machinations of other community members from whom the land had been retrieved, according to Tamilvendan, a senior functionary of Viduthlai Chiruthaigal Katchi in Tiruppur. The recent arrest of an activist Siddarthan, who was instrumental in retrieval of four acres of Panchami land at Thiruma Nagar near Karamadai during 2021 as the then Coimbatore district secretary of VCK, is one such instance, said Mr. Tamilvendan, who is also the State coordinator, Panchami Nila Meetpu Kootiyakkam.
