Ramanathapuram police have booked Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam functionaries for violating the model code of conduct during election campaigning here. The TVK functionaries, Malarvizhi, district secretary (Ramanathapuram East), Jeyabala, district technical team, and Rithik, were all found engaging uniformed school children with party towels and flags for campaigning at Sumaithangi village near Keelakarai. As engaging students for in electioneering was against the model code of conduct, a complaint was registered against the three functionaries, on the basis of a complaint by the sub-inspector of Thiru Uthirakosamangai police station, under sections 75 (Punishment for cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice Act, the Child Labour Act and 171 (c) (undue influence at elections) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
