Banana plants lie flattened after gale hits a field at Cithoor village in Thottiyam taluk. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Gale that swept Thottiyam taluk in Tiruchi district in the early hours of Saturday caused damage to banana crops across about 13 hectares, affecting around 15 farmers. The worst-hit villages include Srinivasanallur, Azhagarai, and Cithoor, where strong winds flattened standing crops, many of which were nearing harvest. Farmers reported significant losses as several plants were uprooted or bent beyond recovery. Officials from the Revenue and Agriculture departments have begun field inspections to assess the extent of damage. Farmers have urged the authorities to expedite compensation and provide necessary relief measures.
