The Podanur Train Users’ Association has urged the Salem Division of Southern Railway to accord a thrust for laying a new line to Karur. The route from Podanur to Karur via Palladam, Kangayam, and Vellakoil would not only serve the interests of passengers, but also generate substantial revenue through goods transportation, N. Subramanian, general secretary, Podanur Train Users’ Association, said in a representation to the Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Railway Division. Mr. Subramanian, who is also member of Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, cited the fructification of similar proposals mooted for funding the Erode-Palani and Madurai-Tuticorin lines, to highlight the necessity for the Coimbatore-Karur project.
