On a single day, election officials in Kerala received 4,585 complaints from the public regarding Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations on the cVIGIL app. Of the 4,528 complaints that were examined and resolved by the officials and flying squads of the Election Commission of India (EC), 4,516 were found to be factual. Thiruvananthapuram district topped the list for the number of complaints that were looked into, Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar said, citing the data for March 20 (Friday). As many as 4,402 complaints were adequately addressed within 100 minutes, he said. “That 4,516 complaints were found to be factual shows the alertness of the people,” he added. The cVIGIL app is a web-based platform developed by the EC for responding promptly to cases cases reported by the citizens. The cVIGIL app enables members of the public to report electoral issues related to distribution of money, liquor, fake news and unauthorised election material by uploading photographs and video clips.
