Chennai Corporation has expedited work on construction of bridges and flyovers in various parts of the city as the Revenue Department has completed land acquisition in projects delayed for many months.

Chennai District Administration has completed work on private negotiation for 29 land parcels for the construction of the Ganesapuram flyover. Land acquisition of nine more parcels is in the advanced stages. The structures will be demolished shortly.

As the project has been expedited by the GCC and the Railways, work on Ganesapuram flyover is expected to be completed in July 2026, after a delay of six months, owing to issues in land acquisition and challenges in shifting of utilities.

Once the work on Ganesapuram flyover is completed, traffic connectivity in north Chennai areas such as Perambur, Purasawalkam, Erukkencherry, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar and Pulianthope is expected to improve, officials said.

GCC officials said the work on construction of the service road and approach road will begin shortly. “Over 65% of the four lane flyover in Ganesapuram has been completed. The pedestrians will use the subway while the flyover will not have footpaths,” said an official. Work on 59-metre of the railway portion of the flyover is expected to be taken up by the GCC with the concurrence of the Railways. The flyover measures 678 metre in length. The project is estimated at ₹226 crore.

The flyover in Level Crossing 2B in north Chennai will be inaugurated by January 20. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion in Kodungaiyur and Korukkupet. “We will launch the construction of another flyover across LC 2A during the inauguration of the flyover across LC 2B. The tender for flyover across LC 2 is expected to be floated in two weeks. Velachery flyover work will start in two weeks. Chinna Nolambur bridge across the Cooum will be opened in the first week of February. The land acquisition has been completed,” said an official.
