Farmers from Erode, Tiruppur and Karur districts have submitted a formal appeal to Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, urging the State government to extend the release of water from the Bhavanisagar Dam for irrigation under the Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) canal till the end of May 2026. The appeal, made by Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, chairman of the Non-Resident Tamil Welfare Board, through Housing and Prohibition and Excise Minister S. Muthusamy, highlighted the distress faced by farmers due to poor seasonal rainfall and rising summer temperatures, which have led to rapid depletion of soil moisture across the ayacut areas.
