Technical screening of film on Mahipathi Dasa in Hubballi today

A Kannada film on 17th-century saint poet Mahipathi Dasa is ready and a technical screening of the film will be done in Hubballi on Saturday.

Addressing press persons, along with film director Madhusudhan Havaldar, here on Friday, ophthalmic surgeon and member of the Mahipathi Dasa trust committee Shrinivas Joshi said that the Mahipathi Dasa served as the Finance Minister in Adil Shahi empire before renouncing everything to embrance ascetic life.

He became a ‘Haridasa’ and wrote in Urdu, Dakhani, Kannada, Marathi, and Telugu languages and believed in the concept of living harmoniously. “The story on Mahipathi Dasa written by Krishna Kolhar Kulkarni had been adapted to film which has been named as ‘Kakhandaki Sri Mahaipathi Dasaru’,” he said.

Mr. Havaldar said that the film which had ten songs, including the ‘kirtans’ of Mahipathi Dasa, was shot mainly in and around Hampi, Gangavathi, and surrounding areas to suit the 17th-century settings.

He said the technical screening would be inaugurated by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and presided over by M.M. Joshi.

“Based on the feedback after the technical screening from experts and descendents of the saint poet, changes will be made and then sent to the censor board for certification,” he said.
