The second Additional District and Sessions Court, Mangaluru, overturned lower court’s acquittal order and imposed penalty of ₹38,000 on four persons on finding them guilty of assaulting a couple by dragging the two out of a vehicle in Punjalkatte police station limits on May 20,2018.

The Judge V.N. Jagadeesh, convicted Sulaiman Sahadi, 51, Abbas, 50, Aboobakkar,56, and Bavunjne Byari, 71, all from Tannirupantha village in Belthangady taluk, for assault of Zubeda and her husband Mohammed. They were convicted for the offences punishable under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant), 504 Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) read with Section 34 of Indian Penal Code. The accused were acquitted for the offence under Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force with an intention to outrage modesty of a woman) of IPC.
