Student allegedly attacked by seniors in Kozhikode

A class VIII student was allegedly assaulted by a group of seniors at a higher secondary school near Madavoor in Kozhikode on Thursday. The alleged incident took place when the student was returning home after attending the annual examinations.

The injured student was later admitted to a private hospital at Omassery. His parents alleged that the student was bullied for his long hair and a pair of new footwear.

Police sources said there were around 15 senior students from class IX who allegedly intercepted the eighth-grader and took him to several locations near the school and assaulted. He was also prevented from boarding the school bus, the police said quoting eyewitnesses.

They added that an investigation was on into the incident, and that CCTV visuals from various spots would be examined. Statements of the school authorities and witnesses were recorded, they said.
