As part of inspections ahead of the Assembly elections, District Collector and District Election Officer Snehil Kumar Singh has said that the static surveillance team and flying squads will seize any amount exceeding ₹50,000 carried without proper documentation. Since the election announcement, the teams have seized a total of ₹2 lakh across the district during inspections, specifically from the Elathur constituency, a press release said on Friday. Action will also be taken against those transporting narcotics, tobacco products, or illicit liquor. Those who wish to contest the seizure of funds can file an appeal before the appeal committee, which operates out of the finance officer’s office at the Collectorate. The committee is convened by senior finance officer K.P. Manoj (nodal officer for election expenditure) and includes the District Treasury Officer, Deputy Director of District Treasury, and the district panchayat secretary.
