Vizianagaram District Collector and Special Officer of Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation S. Ramsundar Reddy on Friday directed civic officials to prioritise uninterrupted drinking water supply during the ongoing summer season.

Reviewing water availability and contingency plans for April and May, when demand for piped water is expected to rise due to depletion of groundwater in borewells and tanks, he stressed the need for advance planning to avoid shortages.

Municipal Commissioner B. Bala Swamy informed him that water would be drawn from the Champavati river through Gajapathinagaram constituency to meet the anticipated summer demand.

The Collector also instructed officials to improve sanitation in the outskirts, where garbage management remains inadequate. He said he would devote more time to civic administration in his capacity as Special Officer. Mr. Ramsundar Reddy was recently given additional charge as Special Officer following the completion of the tenure of the Mayor and other elected representatives.
