HYDERABAD

The long-awaited road infrastructure push for Khammam district is finally taking shape, with the government recently clearing works worth ₹594 crore for the expansion of five major road corridors.

The sanction marks a crucial step towards improving connectivity across key constituencies, including Khammam, Wyra and Madhira, and is expected to significantly ease travel and strengthen the flow of agricultural produce to markets.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who represents the Madhira Assembly constituency, is understood to have played a pivotal role in securing the funds under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). He has been consistently pushing for better road infrastructure in the district, which has long felt the need for wider and faster routes linking rural pockets with growing urban centres.

The projects, four of which will be developed into four-lane stretches, are designed to reduce transportation costs, cut travel time and boost economic activity. Among the major works approved is the Wyra-Jaggayyapeta corridor, which connects to the crucial Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway. The 25.2-km stretch will be widened into a four-lane road at a cost of ₹151.20 crore, easing mobility for travellers and bulk transporters.

The Madhira-Thootikuntla and Madhira-Errupalem routes will also undergo expansion, together receiving over ₹191 crore. These links, running through several villages, are expected to greatly improve access for interior rural areas.

The largest allocation of ₹157.23 crore has been earmarked for upgrading the Khammam-Bonakal road, a 28-km stretch that serves as a vital connection for multiple habitations. Another ₹94.32 crore has been approved for the Bonakal-Allapadu and Rayannapeta-Vangaveedu corridor, rounding off the district’s major road expansion package.
