Heavy rain lashed the Salem and Namakkal districts, and in the past 24 hours, Salem district registered 347.9 mm of rainfall. Due to rain, crops in Edappadi and Sankari taluks were severely damaged.

For the past three weeks in Salem district, the temperatures were registered between 98 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit, due to which, public movement slowed down between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at important junctions in the district. Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening (March 18, 2026), rain began to pour in most parts of the district and at night heavy rain fell especially in rural areas, including Sankari and Edappadi.
