The waste accumulated at the Joharapuram dumpyard on the outskirts of Kurnool is likely to be disposed in two months and the 19 acres land will be developed by the Corporation. Minister for Industries and Commerce T. G. Bharath took up the issue of clearing the waste in the 19-acre land with Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana who responded positively and sanctioned ₹5 crore. Mr. Bharath said Joharapuram village once used to be called as Joharapuram dumping yard and they have decided to change the conditions in the village. “We have already cleared 50 to 60% of the garbage. Now, the works will be speeded up,” he maintained. Mr. Bharath said the value of land at Joharapuram is on the higher side and each acre is likely to be around ₹50 crore. “It is unfortunate tha such a prime land was left unutilised. Once the garbage is cleared, the land will be used by the Corporation,” he said adding there is still one lakh metric tonnes of garbage that needs to be disposed of from the site. Officials said modern machines were being used to clear the dumpyard and would be cleared in two months. Greenery will be developed by the Municipal Administration department at the cleared site.
