Ground breaking for the Upparapalli road was performed here on Wednesday (March 18). The 1.1 km-long road will be developed at an outlay of ₹9 crore.

The road connects SPMVV campus to Ramanujapalli checkpost on the Chennai–Bengaluru national highway and is regularly used by VVIPs coming into the city from the airport.

Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Venkata Mani Prasad (Nani) and Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) Chairperson C. Divakar Reddy jointly performed the ‘Bhumi Puja’ for the work that provides an easy and hassle-free exit for the Tirumala devotees proceeding towards Vellore and Bengaluru routes.

“The road expansion is part of developing the Tirupati city on international standards,” said Mr. Divakar Reddy. TUDA-funded project envisages road widening, laying of footpaths, dividers and central lighting system.

Mr. Nani said the government would focus on developing the roads and highways, which, he alleged, were badly neglected during the erstwhile YSRCP regime.

TUDA Secretary N.V. Sreekanth Babu, Superintending Engineer K. Ravindraiah and Planning Officer P. Devi Kumari took part.
