HYDRAA clears government land in Vengal Rao Nagar

The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has helped reclaim three acres of government land in Vengal Rao Nagar on Wednesday, which was encroached.

According to officials, the then Andhra Pradesh Housing Board had acquired 45 acres of land prior to 1975 after compensating the original owners and developed a layout comprising 660 plots on the land.

As part of the layout, certain parcels amounting to five acres were earmarked for parks and public utilities. Of this, nearly two acres had already been encroached upon with permanent structures, while the remaining three acres were left vacant.

HYDRAA intervened on Wednesday to protect the remaining three acres from fresh encroachments. The agency held a meeting with multiple groups, including individuals who had earlier received compensation from the Housing Board, as well as others claiming ownership of the land. Officials found that none of the claimants possessed valid documentary evidence.

Meanwhile, some of the claimants had approached the Telangana High Court and obtained a stay order. Despite the stay conditions prohibiting any activity on the land, complaints were received from local residents about new sheds being erected, huts being constructed, and commercial activities being carried out on the site. Media reports also highlighted the ongoing encroachments on the government land.

In response, HYDRAA cleared the encroachments and fenced the three-acre parcel, installing signboards declaring it as government property, a press note informed.
