Due to high-speed sea winds, fishermen in Rameswaram and Mandapam have been prohibited from venturing into the sea from Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has warned that cyclonic winds are expected to blow at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h in the Palk Strait region of Ramanathapuram district, with gusts reaching up to 65 km/h. Additionally, sea waves are expected to rise to a height of three meters. Consequently, fishermen have been advised to stay off the Palk Strait. The Fisheries Department has further instructed fishermen not to venture out until further notice and to ensure the safety of their fishing boats and equipment. As a result, tokens for entering the sea would not be issued on Wednesday at the fishing harbours in the district, including Rameswaram, Mandapam, Devipattinam, Thondi, and S.P. Pattinam.
