A section of students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) at Basar staged a protest demanding better medical facilities on campus and compensation for the parents of Tejaswini, a student of RGUKT, who died of ‘leukemia’ while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad on Monday.

According to sources, the aggrieved students staged their ‘sleep-in’ protest near the entrance of RGUKT Vice-Chancellor’s office on the intervening night of March 17-18 to press for their charter of demands.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family of Tejaswini, a second year student of the Pre-University Course, they sought a compensation of ₹50 lakh for her parents.

They deplored that the health centre at RGUKT was ill-equipped to fully cater to the healthcare needs of thousands of students on the campus. They further demanded that the medical facilities including diagnostic services at the health centre be strengthened forthwith.

The demonstrators vowed to continue their protest until their demands were met.
