With an aim to increase enrollment in government first-grade colleges across the State, the Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) is all set to conduct a special admission drive for 2026-27, Praveshati Abhiyana, in all government pre-university colleges in the State.

Manjushree N., Commissioner, DCE, in a circular issued recently, has instructed to take steps to fill at least 75% of the sanctioned intake in the academic year 2026-27. “Colleges that have admitted more than 75% in the academic year 2025-26 should increase the number of admissions by at least 10% compared to the previous academic year,” she said in the circular.

As part of the campaign, the principals of government first-grade colleges have been advised to visit all government pre-university colleges by January 20 and introduce and convince students about the courses available in their colleges and the job opportunities available from them, thereby increasing the number of admissions in degree colleges. All the first-grade colleges have been directed to form an admission committee for the purpose.

Meanwhile, it has come to the notice of the Department that faculties in some colleges are making duplicate admissions to facilitate their work. In this context, the Commissioner, DCE, has warned the faculties that if the dropout rate of students in any stream/course exceeds 25%, the principal of the college concerned will be held directly responsible.

The admission drive is being held in the backdrop of dwindling admissions in government first-grade colleges due to a lack of necessary infrastructure, students being attracted to private colleges and universities, among a host of other reasons.
