The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has granted more time to the Medical College Hospital (MCH), Ernakulam, to furnish details regarding the handling of waste on the campus. The PCB had earlier sought an explanation from the MCH on its response to the show-cause notice issued by the Board a few weeks ago over waste management and directed it to reply within three days. With the hospital failing to furnish details within the stipulated time, the Board decided to allot more time for the hospital. The Board had directed the hospital to classify the quantity of segregated waste and report details. It had also sought a report on how food waste was being disposed of. Following complaints of improper waste management, the PCB had inspected the hospital on February 20. The inspection revealed violations, including dumping of a large number of plastic bags containing solid and biodegradable waste in the parking area.
