Living donor liver transplant done on girl suffering with Abernethy syndrome

A woman donated a part of her liver to save her 9-year-old daughter, who is suffering from an extremely rare congenital condition known as ‘Abernethy syndrome’. The little girl was given a new lease of life by a team of doctors after a 10-hour living donor liver transplantation at MGM Seven Hills Hospital.

The nine-year-old girl from Budarayavalasa in Merakamudidam mandal of Srikakulam district, had been experiencing persistent jaundice, fatigue, and severe growth retardation for nearly three years. Her family had consulted various hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, but the underlying cause remained undiagnosed.
