A State-level Lok Adalat conducted across all courts in the State by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) on March 14 has reported settling over 55.85 lakh cases in a single day.

The Lok Adalat disposed of 2.61 lakh cases, which were among the cases pending in various courts, and 53.23 lakh pre-litigation cases.

The total settlement amount reached through amicable resolution of the litigations is ₹3,248 crore, with major contributions from the settlements of cheque dishonour cases, motor accident claims, and execution matters. Notably, over ₹1,029 crore was settled in cheque bounce cases alone.

Also, 2,626 cases that were pending for over five years, including an 18-year-old partition suit involving a 93-year-old litigant, were amicably settled in the Lok Adalat. 3,330 cases involving senior citizens were also resolved.

While resolving 2,321 matrimonial disputes, the Lok Adalat succeeded in reuniting 328 estranged couples through the efforts of mediation.

Justice Anu Sivaraman, a judge of the High Court of Karnataka and Executive Chairperson of KSLSA, lauded the coordinated efforts of judicial officers, advocates, and stakeholders.
