The Coimbatore City Police took out a flag march on Tuesday in view of the approaching Assembly election. City Police Commissioner N. Kannan led the flag march that started at Gandhi Park and ended near forest college campus.

Deputy Commissioners of Police G. Karthikeyan (Coimbatore South) and N. Devanathan (North), senior police officers and over 100 personnel marched via D.B. Road at R.S.Puram on Tuesday evening, braving rain that lashed several parts of the city.  The parade also featured a police band, more than 70 four-wheel patrol vehicles and over 50 beat patrol units (two-wheeler).

The police stated that the exercise was aimed at reinforcing public confidence in the law and order machinery and ensuring a peaceful election process in the city. More flag marches will be held in other parts of the city in coming days, they said.

According to the police, paramilitary personnel from other States have arrived in the city for various election-related duties.
