Thrissur district is all set for the Assembly elections scheduled on April 9, with the District Election Officer and District Collector Shikha Surendran confirming that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and transparent poll.

A total of 2,523,810 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 1,299,911 women, 1,223,852 men, and 19 transgender voters. Women constitute 51.5 percent of the electorate, while men account for 48.49 percent.

The district has 2,839 polling stations, of which 666 are located in urban areas and the rest in rural regions. To oversee the election process and safeguard voters’ rights, the Election Commission has appointed general observers, expenditure observers, and a police observer, the collector said.

Green protocol

Authorities have emphasised strict adherence to green protocol measures throughout the election process. Distribution of polling materials will begin at 8 a.m. on April 8 at designated distribution centres across the district.

From the commencement of mock polling on the morning of April 9 until the conclusion of voting and sealing of machines, all activities inside polling booths will be monitored live through the control room at the Collectorate.

Notably, 26 polling booths across all constituencies will be managed entirely by women, including security personnel, highlighting a strong push for gender representation in election management.

Election campaigning must end by 6 p.m. on April 7. A 48-hour dry period will be enforced ahead of polling, during which the sale of liquor will be prohibited, she said.
